Flower/gardening swap

Glenda gave this great idea for a flower swap to help each other to fill our mini gardens :) So, I really don't know how to make this work, maybe if everyone who wants to participate would make a list of flowers that they can make or have kits for that they can send and would also make a list for flowers that they need in they gardens? Of course all other gardening minies can be added to this swap :)

Any interest ladies or better ideas how to make this work?

At this moment I'm able to do some white echinaceas, a restricted amount of lettuce, some red and white daisies without leaves (I've ordered an punch to make some), small ferns and small bushes that resemble little bamboos. I also have printable vintage seed and bulb packets and seed catalogs and can make som garden shelves and trays like in my giveaway.

Happy gardening to everyone :)

  1. Ira & Glenda, I think that's such a fab idea ! I want to build a peony garden for my mum. Looking for a suitable box now to put the garden in. May go to Ikea and get one of those similar to Ira's greenhouse. I will be interested in a swap like this. If we can gather like a handful of people in the group, (say 5) , then each person can make 5 of each set of things to swap? This means the group can't be too big otherwise, it will be too many to make. If it is a big group, then I guess we can divide the people into a few groups of 5? So each person will get 5 sets of things? This is one way? We also should state the number of things each set should have so that the numbers are more or less equal? Ira, you can set the guidelines and sound it out to see if anyone is interested? Timing to make the plants /flowers/gardening equipment by is also important.

Alternatively, if the 5 people can know what each other are building, then we can also cater our sets for each person to her project. Not sure if this is too ambitious because it means building 5 different sets of things. Just an idea.

  2. I would definitely be interested in a flower swap. I will need lots of flowers for the outside of my garden shed project. I can swap hyacinths, ferns, and fushia if anyone is interested. I also have tons of garden printies such as gardening manuals, seed packages, lawn seed, vintage gardening signs, etc. I would love to participate!

  3. I will need some flowers for my shop but haven't as yet tried to make any. I could make stands or similar, would have to have a think. I can make topiaries?

  4. Great ideas Sans, I also think that the swap has to be kept quite small or if there's more people want to participate, we can then make smaller groups. Or if two people have the exact things for each other, they can make the swap together. I was just thinking that we could like this get together people who do gardening stuff and flowers and do some swapping :) And I was also thinking of doing it more personal so that the swappers receive things that they really need and are after :)

  5. I would love to be part of the swap. I make a whole group in a particular colour, or a group of sunflowers. The pots can be aged or painted whatever suits.

  6. I have tons of clay flowers that I don't use as I only use paper. You can see samples of these at http://sansdollhousediaries.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-maharajahs-palace-day-34.html. So the person in my group can let me know if they have use for these. I also use plastic ones sometimes if they look realistic enough but you may need to paint it a bit and yes, use lots of moss to make them look realistic. Last year , I gave away paper flowers for my giveaway (Ira, just sent you some of these) so I haven't got much left until I go to Bangkok again. I do have some still to swap , just can't give away 100 like I did last year.

I have tons of leaves (plastic but pretty realistic with plant paint) . Some terracota pots etc. I can make some potted plants too.

Ira, I think your idea that we give some generic items and then make some personalised ones is good. I am for that. No matter what, I think everyone's garden will be so much more interesting with things from around the globe :). I am so glad that I finally have the impetus to start this garden for mum . I have been wanting to do it but never got my act together.

Merry... sag mir einfach nochmal Bescheid (monika.ehrenschneider@gmx.de)ob Interesse an meinen Stiefmütterchen besteht. Ich würde gerne mitmachen.

    Liebe Grüße PuNo/Monika

  8. I would be interested in filling my conservatory. I can make hostas or geraniums/pelargoniums if anyone would be interested in receiving those plants.

  9. I may be interested in the swap depending on the mail by date- I am a real beginner with flowers and it takes me ages to make a simple bunch of 12, so I would not want to hold anyone up. I can make clematis flowers, daffodils, lillies so far- and tiny daisies. I'm planning on trying out some roses- but haven't attempted it yet :)

  10. Ok, now we have 8 gardeners :D Kim, I don't think that we need to make any exact dates, I just wanted to bring some minigarderners together and help each other to fill the gardens :)

I was thinking should we do the swapping through email? So we could send some pics of the flowers we've made and tell more in detail what style/colours/flowers we need in our gardens and what we can offer to swap? And I don't think that it's necessary to swap with everyone if you don't want to/can't make enough flowers or other gardening stuff :)

  11. If you've got enough people for the swap, I quite understand, Ira -- but I'd be happy to help. I can make delphiniums :) and I'm working on lavender in pots.

  12. Nina, no, there's room for so many that want to participate, as we all don't need to swap with everybody :)

  15. Despite the name I bear, I do not have anything and the only flowers that I made, I have had to invent them.
I do not know how I could be useful in this swap and I'm sorry :-(
    Gladly follow your trading...
    A kiss to all, Flower

  16. Flora, you don't have to be sorry :) You know, I'm thinking that the swap doesn't have to be all about flowers, for example if you would love to have some tulips in your house and some one else needs something you can make, there's no problem with that :)

  17. I'd love to swap! Maybe if we show on our blogs what we have, and people can negotiate by e-mail from there?

The plants I'm looking for will be 'cottage garden' and old fashioned flowers and herbs.
I don't have much at the moment, but I'd be happier buying a kit or three and making them up, if I thought that it would turn from just three flower types into a wider variety.

And Flora - Ira's suggestion of swapping plants for other items is great! Why not?

  18. I need many flowers on my balcony of the mountain hut! geraniums, marigolds, violas, pansies, roses climbing ... but I can not make flowers ... if you decide to share flowers with other items, I gladly participate! I can make baskets of string, as I have shown in my tutor baskets and even small bags of seeds, fertilizer bags and boxes of food for animals ... or whatever you want to see from my blog! I just want to know the departure date, because in 10 days I leave for vacation! I am available from August onwards!
I refresher here for updates, or IRA, please write me an email for confirmation! Oh! I am very excited ...
    kisses, Caterina
